After a few months of getting settled with the new little one, you may feel in a rut. The overwhelming emotional roller coaster you’ve been on has finally slowed down a bit. You’ve started to notice the extra layer around your middle, and you catch yourself waiting for the next talk show. This is the time to get back that energy and feel great.
Here are 5 simple steps to feeling refreshed and new:
1) Get the baby out in the stroller and get out for a walk. It doesn’t have to be strenuous…just get out and get some sun. The vitamin D and fresh air will do your body good!
2) Give yourself alittle B energy! It’s no time to diet while breastfeeding but it is a good time to give your body the extra vitamins and minerals it needs to feel great. remember, you used up your vitamins making a baby, time to start taking care of yourself. Pick up some healthy snacks to have around the house…cheese sticks, fruit or trail mix for easy snacking around the house. Dump the junk…get rid of excess sugar items that may bring down your energy. Of course, every mother should also hide that one special candy for emergencies moments! And don’t forget your breastfeeding multivitamin!
3) Get a massage! It is the perfect way to get some solid “you” time. Plus, a great massuese will rub away those sore and painful shoulders and back from breastfeeding and carrying the baby.
4) Mommy play date…find another new mom and head to the park. No, not so your kids can play (they are far too little) but so that you can share some time with another mother going through the same things you are experiencing. The laughter and advice you share will refresh you in no time. It’s a good reminder that we all go through these crazy times and that your child doesn’t have to hit every milestone perfectly to turn out fantastic! If you don’t know another new mom, try taking a baby massage class or similar at your local hospital.
5) Go shopping! Pack your little one up and head to the mall. It’s a great time for you to pick up something that fits nicely on your post birth body (which isn’t your permanent body, so don’t stress) and makes you feel good. You can also pick out a cute baby outfit! This is the time to shop with your little one because it gets much harder when they hit the toddler stage. So, enjoy the hours now, browsing the stores and enjoy the many compliments from the store clerks as they see your adorable baby!
Help yourself feel great so that you can enjoy every moment of being a new mommy!
